In , Israel fought a desperate war of self-defense and despite dire odds, won. As a result, the Jewish State not only survived, it also came into possession of additional lands, including territory that is of vital importance to its security. The Palestinians and their supporters are attempting to promote their cause by channeling every event through the prism of the disputed territories. In doing so, they have succeeded in diverting the discussion away from the relevant facts, rewriting or ignoring history and reinventing international law to suit their aims.
The Gaza Strip is unusual in being a densely settled area not recognized as a de jure part of any extant country. The Gaza Strip is situated on a relatively flat coastal plain. The area receives an average of about 12 inches mm of precipitation annually. Agriculture is the economic mainstay of the employed population, and nearly three-fourths of the land area is under cultivation. The chief crop, citrus fruit, is raised on irrigated lands and is exported to Europe and other markets under arrangement with Israel. Truck crops, wheat, and olives also are produced. Light industry and handicrafts are centred in Gaza , the chief city of the area.
The Situation of Palestinians at the Gaza Strip & the West Bank
Finding a lasting political solution to the Middle East conflict is one of the central challenges of our time. Israelis and Palestinians should be able to live peacefully together as neighbours in freedom, justice and dignity, within secure and recognised boundaries, free from terror and violence. It requires an active policy on the part of all stake holders, as well as the courage of the Palestinian Authority and the Israeli Government to return to the negotiating table and to be prepared to make serious concessions that will pave the way to a permanent two-state-solution.
Palestinian territories has been used for many years to describe the territories occupied by Israel since , namely the West Bank including East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip. More recently, the official United Nations terminology  has been used, occupied Palestinian territory    OPT or oPt increasingly replacing other terms since The term "Occupied Palestinian Territory" was used by the United Nations UN and other international organizations between October  to December in order to refer to areas controlled by the Palestinian National Authority.
